Funeral Notice – Nancy Barat (AH)

FUNERAL NOTICE:

It is with much sadness that we inform you of the passing of Nancy BARAT (AH).

Arrangements have been made for the graveside funeral for Nancy Barat (AH) on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Congregation Beth El Cemetery.  Nancy was a long-time member of Beth El and the Windsor Jewish community; the beloved wife of Arthur Barat (AH), mother of Brian Barat (AH), David Barat, and Carolyn Desch, mother-in-law of Brad Desch, grandmother of Julia, Alex and Samantha Desch, sister of Marion Stein, sister-in-law of Bert Stein, aunt and great-aunt of Stein children and grandchildren.

OBITUARY:

Nancy BARAT (AH)

On Wednesday, December 29, 2021, Nancy Rose Barat died in New York City. She was surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. The burial will be held at Temple Beth El Cemetery in Windsor, Ontario on Wednesday, January 5 at 11:00 a.m. The family will sit shiva on Zoom on Wednesday, Jan 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. beginning with the evening service. Nancy was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 16, 1940, to Helen and Morris Novominsky. Nancy was an art history instructor at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. She traveled extensively with her husband, Arthur Barat, who she married at the age of 19 and with whom she shared incredible love and joy until his death in 2009. Nancy was a passionate walker, hiker, museum visitor, theater and movie goer, and reader. She created a women’s investment club and headed the Windsor Jewish Film Festival. She was actively involved with Congregation Beth El. Nancy was known for her warmth, loving nature, sophistication and style, knowledge and appreciation of art, and her huge smile. Her happiest moments were shared with her adoring family, and her favourite title was “Bubby.” Nancy is survived by her son, David of Toronto, daughter, Carolyn Desch (Brad), and grandchildren Julia, Alex, and Samantha of New York City. She was the mother of the late Brian Barat. Nancy is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Bert Stein of West Bloomfield, Michigan, and their children and grandchildren. The family would appreciate donations made to the Arthur and Brian Barat Memorial Fund at Congregation Beth El, the Familial Dysautonomia Foundation, and the Parkinson’s Foundation.
