Funeral Notice – Ruth Hurwitz-Lerner (AH)

FUNERAL NOTICE:

It is with much sadness that we inform you of the passing of Ruth Hurwitz-Lerner (AH).

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 17th, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Rachel Kaplan Hebrew Memorial Chapel, 685 Aylmer Avenue.  Rabbi Sholom Galperin officiated.   Internment followed at the Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery, 2650 Pillette Road.  Shiva was on Tuesday, January 17, Wednesday, January 18 and Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 5:15 pm at the home of Herb & Ellen Brudner, 501-5151 Riverside Drive East, Windsor, ON N8S 4R5.

OBITUARY:

29-Dec-1924 – 12-Jan-2023

Our loving mother, and Bubbie, Ruth Brudner Hurwitz Lerner (12/29/1924), sadly passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023, in Longboat Key, Florida. She was 98 years old. She was born to Goldie (OBM) and Henry Brudner (OBM), in Windsor, Ontario. She was married to William Hurwitz (OBM) and Dr. Philip Lerner (OBM). She was predeceased by her sister Leatrice Brudner (OBM) and niece Florence Shanbrom-Purnell (OBM), but survived by her brother Herb and sister-in-law Ellen Brudner, 6 sons and daughters-in-law Paul and Diane Hurwitz (OBM), Ronald and Eileen Shanbrom, Eli (OBM) and Neva Lerner, Richard and Heather Hurwitz, Michael and Arlene Hurwitz, and Barry and Debbie Hurwitz. She is survived by nieces, Anita Hurwitz and Francie Brudner-Kaplan, and nephews, Gary and Stuart Brudner.  In addition, she had many grandchildren: Honit Simon, Daniel and Fanya Hurwitz, Joseph and Carly Hurwitz, Edward, Adam and William Hurwitz, and Peter and Simon Carrington, as well as great grandchildren: Ethan, Seth and Reed Simon, Nevo and Carmel Hurwitz, and Jett and Ellie Hurwitz. In addition, she leaves behind a loving extended family.

Ruth was extremely active in the Shaar Hashomayim Sisterhood, and the local chapter and national executive of Hadassah. Ruth was a strong advocate of Israel, very passionate about her love for Judaism, its rich heritage and customs, and passing these traditions to her family. She was always very active in both the Jewish community of Windsor and of Longboat Key, Florida, where she has lived for the last 45 years. She loved to cook, bake, and entertain, especially for her family and friends. She loved art, history, traveling, and playing tennis. She lived a very long and productive life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and all who knew her.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 17th at 10 am, Rachel Kaplan Hebrew Memorial Chapel, 685 Aylmer Avenue.  Rabbi Sholom Galperin officiating.   Internment will follow immediately at the Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery at 2650 Pillette Road.  Shiva is on Tuesday, January 17, Wednesday, January 18 and Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 5:15 pm at the home of Herb & Ellen Brudner, 501-5151 Riverside Drive East, Windsor, ON N8S 4R5.
